Director Avo Harutyunyan and the Black Flight team filmed traditional Armenian dancers surrounded by mountains, monasteries and historic scenery. Traditional clothing. Traditional movement. And people around the world started asking the same question: Why does this work so well? But Armenia wasn’t where it started. According to the creators, the format began with a video showcasing Georgian dance culture set to “Mask Off.” Then something interesting happened. Other cultures started making their own versions. And suddenly a Future record from Atlanta was connecting visual traditions across parts of Eurasia. Think about how far that song had to travel. “Mask Off” comes from a completely different environment. Different language. Different history. Different traditions. Different side of the world.
