@being__her: This is our childhood home in Eritrea where our story first began. Walking through, looking at the house again..the memories come flooding back..laughter, family and so much more. The kind of early childhood that shapes everything after it but this home holds something else too. This is where at 7 years old…we both became deaf on the same day at the same time and to this day we still don't know why…it just happened. We still remember what it was like to hear before it happened and what it felt like the moment everything went silent. That moment changed our lives. It’s the reason my family made the impossible decision to leave the only home we’d ever known. It’s like watching a film in our heads..so many memories more beautiful than words can describe and we’re grateful they’re still there playing in our minds. Standing here today..we feel all of it at once…the nostalgia, the happy moments, the grief for what we left behind and this deep overwhelming gratitude for how far we’ve come. Some places don’t just hold memories. They hold the person you used to be and the person you became because of them. 🇪🇷
