Listen i had a nasty blue roan who bit me in the face and within a heartbeat i was locked around his head biting his ears. He squealed and lifted me off the ground. NEVER had another problem again.

Have you ever been bit by a horse? They're so much meaner to eachother than a slap from a human 1/4 their size. It just surprises them and I feel like horses are intelligent enough to know when they're not supposed to be doing something

i rescue my dog when he was not even a month, so he was never socialize by his mom, so he bit me a lot until I bit him back, he never did it again lol. correcting is something they naturally do, sometimes we need to go down to their language lol

I think as an equestrian myself people misunderstand what you are saying. Cause the issue is there's people who use this as an excuse to be abusive and hit their horses for literally anything. but clearly you aren't doing that. 💀

My dad had a horse that would rear and try to throw him for no reason other than he didn’t want to be ridden that day, so one day my dad smacked him in the head when he reared and he magically never did it again lol

If people watched how horses correct other horses, they’d realise quickly that slapping them on the bum or neck is light work. You have to speak their language because they don’t speak ours, and a slap from a human is nothing compared to a kick or a chomp from a horse. It’s how they learn in the herd and it’s how they HAVE to learn with us.

Horses bite and kick each other to establish pecking order and balance and just generally herd behavior. A smack from a human does no harm. Mine will get a slap if they are naughty or dangerous in their behaviour. I would rather correct bad behaviour early before I let it go on and I am hurt later on

had a black angus market steer that charged me once. i hit him on the nose and came right back at him. he never challenged me again. and if it hadn’t? he would have hurt or killed someone! they’re animals who weigh 10x our weight - we HAVE to be strict and tough!

Imagine if any of these comments were applied to dog training. People would feel very differently. There are better more effective ways to train horses that don’t require using positive punishment, fear and pain. Just because someone has had success doesn’t mean there aren’t more ethical ways to train.

My horse bit me and smacked right in the face never did again so ya don’t be worried about the people who have no idea what there talking about and never been around a horse sometimes you gotta or they don’t learn and someone gets hurt

as a human mom, yeah, u did it right. the startle is more than enough when anything is doing things that can get them and others hurt. its a "hey, pay the fuck attention" and horses bite to correct. idk what bite force on a horse is in psi, but I have seen oddly mouth shaped changes in fur colour on bums... im gonna guess teeth did damage to hair follicles cuz they were told to knock it off by someone their own size. we're just an annoying mosquito bite in comparison.

I really can’t comprehend how people think that swats and other corrective actions physically hurt the horse. When other horses kick horses and they’re usually always fine(unless they kick them in the head or legs just right) it boggles my mind.

my friends daughter trusted her horse 100%. then he kicked her in the head. she had to be flown via helicopter to the hospital. they thought she was gonna die. she luckily made a full recovery. I would rather you give him one spank than to see that happen to anyone
