I built new rail cars at Freightcar America until Obama and Biden put strict regulations on coal shut down the company they moved to Mexico! The company was bought by a couple different employers we still rework older rail cars washing blasting and painting interior and exterior I have 22 years there and still there!

Born and raised. In addition to the complete loss of industry, the construction of the prison by Lou Mervis and friends and the relocation of people from the closing housing projects in Chicago, caused our town to sink to depths it will likely never recover from.

Chuckles, Esco, GE, GM, Freight car, KIK, Hyster, Heatcraft, Quaker, Autotron, Mesi, US can, Tilton Pattern, and literally the half of Bungie that milled soy beans just to name a few. I couldn't begin to tell you how many other jobs that supported these factories were lost, especially machine shops.

Danville started dying when GM left. Quicker was the final nail in the coffin. Sad, lived most of my life there. Worked a Peterson- Puritan ( ccl- kik) , Creative products ( conagra), Teepak, & Quaker and all but one is gone and if you can speak English, they won't hire you.
