the lake was named by the indigenous people here before us, ontario being a word meaning big beautiful lake. it isnt only a hit on canada, it is a hit specifically on indigenous people. fun fact, ontario the province was named after the lake, not the other way around.

It’s only Lake America for internal govt purposes. American kids will still be taught Lake Ontario in schools. Atlases and globes will remain. At least that’s my understanding.
