@j_szn7: Three-point shooting has completely changed the role of the center in modern basketball. In the past, centers were mainly expected to dominate in the paint, grab rebounds and score close to the basket. Today, a center who can consistently shoot from beyond the arc can completely change the way a defense has to play. A shooting center creates spacing. When a big man can stand behind the three-point line and punish defenders for leaving him open, opposing centers are forced away from the rim. This creates driving lanes for guards, more space for teammates and additional options in the half-court offense. It also makes a center much harder to defend because he can attack both inside and outside. The evolution of this role can be seen clearly in the NBA’s all-time leaders for three-pointers made while playing primarily as centers: 1. Karl-Anthony Towns — 1,230 Towns is arguably the ultimate example of a modern shooting center. His combination of size, inside scoring and elite shooting makes him an incredibly difficult matchup. He can punish smaller defenders in the paint while forcing bigger defenders to step outside. 2. Brook Lopez — 1,189 Lopez completely transformed his game during his career. After beginning as a traditional low-post center, he developed into one of the NBA’s most reliable big-man shooters. His ability to stretch the floor became a major part of his value. 3. Al Horford — 1,050 Horford’s three-point shooting has been crucial to his longevity. He doesn’t need the ball constantly, but his presence on the perimeter creates space for everyone else. His versatility has allowed him to remain effective at a high level for many years. 4. Kristaps Porzingis — 1,004 Porzingis combines exceptional height with a dangerous perimeter shot. His size makes his release extremely difficult to contest, while his shooting forces opposing centers to defend far from the basket. 5. Nikola Vučević — 998 Vučević has also evolved from a traditional scoring center into a much more complete offensive player. His three-point shot adds another dimension to his post game and allows him to contribute without constantly operating in the paint. These numbers represent more than just individual shooting ability. They show how the center position itself has evolved. The modern NBA increasingly values big men who can stretch the floor, because a center who can shoot three-pointers doesn’t just score from distance — he creates opportunities for the entire offense. #NBA #basketball #lebron #curry #joelembiid
