I had that last one, caching the future, as a request. their suggestion was cache every possible result. I said don't do that it will cost 10s of thousands of pounds every day. I left the company and they did it and it cost them 10s of thousands of pounds every day. the project manager got fired.

To be fair, it’s not impossible what they’re asking. You just have to cache everything in the entire app or website. McMaster Carr’s website does this and it’s instant loading

I actually had a similar conversation with an exec about why users couldn’t write to the same database from opposite sides of the earth at the same speed. Physics man, they can’t because of physics.

to be fair, we already have downloadable storage: it's called the cloud. I know it's a dumb request, but sometimes when you take those dumb requests as a possibility you're able to invent things you wouldn't have thought about. In this case, of course they don't literally invent downloadable storage but they found a way to supply the customers'wants, they don't know the technicalities... and Google, Dropbox, onedrive, etc. have turned a massive profit from it.
