@dr.zac.spiritos: What does it mean when your doctor says you’re hypermobile, but your whole body feels tight? A lot of people with hypermobility also have very tense, overworked muscles. When connective tissue provides less passive stability, the muscles may compensate by working harder to stabilize the joints. Over time, that constant effort can contribute to: • Muscle tightness and guarding • Charlie horses and muscle cramps • Chronic neck and jaw tension • Aching, fatigue, and feeling “stuck” Physical therapy is often one of the most important pieces. A physical therapist familiar with hypermobility can work on strength, coordination, joint control, and movement mechanics rather than simply stretching already-mobile joints. Some people benefit from dry needling, too. For a subset of people whose muscle tightness looks more like dystonia, rigidity, or abnormal sustained muscle contraction, an emerging (and off-label approach) sometimes considered is low-dose Sinemet (carbidopa/levodopa). This is not an established treatment by any means, but can be very helpful for the right person. Levodopa crosses into the brain and is converted into dopamine, which plays an important role in how the brain regulates movement and muscle tone. For the right person, it can help them feel less rigid and tense. This is far from an established therapy in this space, so it should be considered an individualized, clinician-guided treatment rather than routine hypermobility therapy. DISCLAIMER: I do not have hypermobility. I’m demonstrating these movements for educational purposes only. This post is for education and awareness and is not medical advice. #mcas #heds #hypermobility #dysautonomia #dystonia

For my massage clients I have to find a balance between which muscles they need to keep tight so we don't cause instability. And sometimes actually feeling a toned muscle points to it being super tight even though it doesn't feel tight. Softer, less toned feeling muscles can also be incredibly strong. And we have to work so closely with the nervous system and so much fascia involvement. I always refer them to a local PT who knows EDS. I have hEDS, POTS, Hashinmoto's, and MCAS and get flares from receiving massage - cursed to give and never receive 😂

The older I get the tighter I get and it’s so bad. Especially with my ribs and shoulders. Cool we can dislocate but I’m going to tear your peck bc why not. Okay now your knee is dislocated. No biggie pop that back in but like your calf thigh and a couple tendons, they can totally just tear apart. That’s totally fine.

Is a virtual PT who is familiar with hyper mobility better than an in-person therapist that isn’t?

So I’m hyper mobile in several of my joints. I have had to have 7 knee surgeries because my knee caps pop out of place. But my genetic testing for ehlers danlos syndrome came back negative. Do you see this often
