Duncan Family Farms ® :
Spaghetti squash standards for grocery stores has been so difficult for us to achieve. The skin gets wind burn easily! Rejections aren’t fun!

How do you deal with squash vine borer as a commercial squash producer?

Spaghetti squash is a novelty to just cook and see. Not eat. Where's the Hubbard? Butternut? Buttercup? Smaller yields but a more useful fruit and food. You are right about a fabulous yield, but would you personally go out of your way to eat that? Half shells stuffed with butter and brown sugar, maybe honey and marshmallows, too. Go ahead, pay the bills.

You are doing a great job in giving everyone an understanding of how to change our grocery buying. Now farmers markets are our priority.

Why do you grow it to lose money just because the grocery stores want it? Trying to wrap my head around that!

Every time Ty talks about his cost versus what the stores charge I get so annoyed. Hard working farmers do all the work and get very little in return. I wish farmers could sell to the public and make a good living. Hey dare to dream.

Retail and large foodservice produce buyers are truly destroying farming. I cannot begin to tell you guys the irrational demands they impose on sellers trying to find a retail point that sounds good to them or makes their irrational math add up.

We have a farm near us that practically drowns in honey nuts each year. I grow Walthams and last year 2 plants yielded 30+ squash

The middle man ( lob laws ) steal all the revenue. Leaves the farmers and consumers with the crappy end of stick. While 1 family takes it all.

I grew honey nut this year in my small backyard garden and had to double pollinate to get any fruit to stay on. It definitely wasn’t the most prolific squash I’ve ever grown.
