This little Jade plant had been with me for several months, and it just wasn’t getting the full start it needed. So I pruned it to encourage it to branch out, but also to see if I could turn the cuttings into even more plants. Here’s how I did it. ✂️ I started by making several stem cuttings with clean pruners, leaving leaves behind on the mother plant so it could continue growing and hopefully push out new branches. After that, I removed a few of the lower leaves from each cutting and let the cut ends dry for about 48 hours so they could form a protective callous. 🪴 For the propagation mix, I chose a fast-draining blend that would hold enough moisture for rooting while still allowing plenty of oxygen around the developing roots. Good drainage is especially important when working with Jade cuttings. 🌱 Once the cuttings were ready, I planted them into the mix in a clear pot. I like using clear pots when I can because they allow me to monitor root development without disturbing the cuttings. 💦 After planting, I watered the mix thoroughly and then allowed it to dry 100% before watering again. Jade plants store water in their leaves and stems, so they generally prefer drying out between waterings rather than staying consistently wet. 👀 The months went by, and well… the results speak for themselves. Over the years I’ve propagated Jade leaves in soil, leaves in water, leaves in air, and stem cuttings too. Every method has taught me something different, which is part of the fun.
