@artfittrades: My beginner NQ ORB rules 1. Do NOT trade 9:30–9:45. Just watch. Mark: 🔵 ORH = high of first 15 minutes 🔴 ORL = low of first 15 minutes 2. After 9:45, wait for a CLOSE outside the range. Don't enter just because NQ pokes above ORH. For a LONG: Price breaks ORH → candle closes above it → wait for confirmation/retest → enter. For a SHORT: Price breaks ORL → candle closes below it → wait for confirmation/retest → enter. Waiting for a candle close is one of the simplest ways to avoid getting caught by a wick/false breakout. 🧠 The beginner tip I'd emphasize most: Don't trade the first breakout automatically. Trade the first breakout that HOLDS. For example: 9:45: ORH = 23,000 9:48: NQ spikes to 23,030 9:49: falls back under 23,000 ❌ Don't chase that long. But if: 9:48: breaks 23,000 9:50: closes at 23,025 9:52: pulls back toward 23,000 9:53: buyers defend 23,000 ✅ That's the type of confirmation I'd rather have as a beginner. Keep your risk boring This is especially important with NQ because it can move very quickly. I'd establish one fixed dollar risk per trade before the session starts, rather than moving your stop because you're losing. And give yourself a rule like: One ORB setup. One attempt. If it loses, I'm done. That prevents the classic: ORB loss → revenge trade → another loss → "I'll make it back" → overtrading. Since you've told me before that your biggest problem has been breaking your trading rules after being profitable, I'd actually make your goal not making money. Make your goal: “Can I execute my ORB rules perfectly today?” If you make $300 while breaking your rules, that's a bad trading day. If you lose $100 while following your rules perfectly, that's a good trading day. And before putting real money behind this, I'd backtest the exact rules—including the entry, stop, target, and no-trade conditions—because ORB performance can vary substantially by market conditions. One extra rule I'd personally add: if the first 15-minute range is huge, don't force the trade. Your stop may become too large for your predetermined risk. NQ doesn't owe you a trade that day.
