There are three things you should never do when you pray. Many Christians pray every day, but if the way you pray is wrong, especially the third one, many people are doing it without realising how dangerous it can be. First, do not only remember to pray when you are in trouble. Some people hardly draw near to God when life is going well. They rarely pray. But as soon as difficulties come, they suddenly begin crying out to God. But God is not just your “emergency help”. He is not Someone you only remember when you have no other way out. He is your Father, the God you should draw near to and depend on every day. Do not wait until the storm comes before you seek Him. Learn to walk with Him even when life is peaceful. Second, after you pray, do not rush away immediately. For many people, prayer is only them talking from beginning to end. They say “Amen”, get up straight away, and continue with whatever they were doing. But prayer is not only about speaking. You also need to be still before God. What is God’s will in this matter? If someone only tells God what they want every time they pray, but is never willing to be quiet and seek Him, then their prayer can easily become nothing more than talking, without any real fellowship with God. Third, do not turn prayer into a transaction between you and God. You especially need to be watchful about this. Some people pray: “Lord, if You just help me through this, then from now on I promise I will...” It may sound spiritual, but in reality, you are placing conditions on God. True prayer is not about making God follow your plan. It is about bringing your needs, your pain, and your desires before Him, and still being willing to say: “Lord, not my will, but Thine, be done.” So today, let us begin to pray: “God, what is Your will?” If this message has reminded you today, write in the comments: “Amen.” You can also leave your name, so that we can pray especially for your prayer life.
