@drmarshallthompsonjr: I think Black women are amazing, and I certainly don’t believe all Black women communicate or handle conflict the same way. However, I also don’t believe these men simply made up their experiences. I don’t think the issue is race itself. I believe some of these differences may come from how we have been socialized to communicate and respond to conflict within our families and communities. These patterns may also be connected to the lasting effects of slavery and the ways it disrupted Black families, relationships, and communication across generations. Still, this is not a good reason to completely stop dating Black women. When both people understand what is happening, these patterns can be addressed and changed. If one person needs time to calm down, that request should be respected, but the conversation must also be revisited so both people feel heard and the conflict gets resolved.
