Complex PTSD isn’t in the DSM yet and based on my opinion based on my time as a therapist, a lot of things in the DSM are actually CPTSD.

As soon as I studied the DSM-5 I switched my major from psych to sociology. It makes way more sense to understand the social structures and how they affect people.

I think the ASD diagnostic criteria are absolute bullshit. Tell me why I have a kid who made it to his teenage years without a single parent, teacher, or IEP team ever suspecting autism, then suddenly gets diagnosed after Dad seeks an evaluation during a contentious custody case and unilaterally chooses a provider who is a BCBA. This is a kid with a longstanding intellectual disability, very low IQ, no sensory issues or stimming, good eye contact, full conversations, and who initiates socially in situations where he’s comfortable. At what point are characteristics of intellectual disability just being relabeled as autism?

Not to mention that it doesn’t take into consideration other cultures or ways of being. They’ve literally found people with schizophrenia do better in India and more collectivist cultures because people keep them actively involved in their communities and don’t ostracize them. It even leads to more med compliance.

PTSD in children looks a lot like ADHD. When I worked in advocacy for children I would get so many kids dx ADHD. Worked on the trauma and boom. No more ADHD sx. That’s not to say you can’t have BOTH ptsd and adhd, but I truly think that’s why adhd is so over diagnosed in kids
