@americantravelarchives: This is the OLDEST town in Nevada… America in 250 🇺🇸 | Episode 40 Follow americantravelarchives for more hidden gems and send this to the person you want to explore Nevada with 📍 Genoa, Nevada⠀ In 1851 this was one lonely trading post on the Carson Route of the California Trail, the last place wagon trains could resupply before crossing the Sierra Nevada. It became Nevada’s first permanent non-native settlement. The Washoe had been living in this valley for thousands of years before that. What to see 👇 🪵 Mormon Station State Historic Park, with the reconstructed stockade and trading post 🏛 The Genoa Courthouse Museum, where the woman working there walked us through her favorite exhibits ⛷ Snowshoe Thompson, who carried the mail across the Sierra on skis. Alone. In winter. For about 20 years, because nobody else could get through. 🐎 A Pony Express marker right in town 🍬 The Candy Dance, a town tradition that’s been running since 1919 ✨ Pro Tip: you can see the whole town in a morning, so pair it with Tahoe or Carson City the same day. Everyone goes to Virginia City for old Nevada. This one is older and nowhere near as busy. Which would you rather spend a morning in? 👇
