@persecondnews.ng: An Igbo delegation has staged a dramatic walkout from a national restructuring summit in Abuja after rejecting a proposed plan to replace Nigeria’s 36 states with 15 to 17 autonomous regions. The delegation, led by Professor Obasi Igwe and Dr. Katch Ononuju, described the exercise as a “charade”, alleging that the proposed regional boundaries would fragment Igbo-speaking communities, particularly those in Rivers State, and place them under separate administrations. The delegation also objected to what it described as the denial of the Igbo people’s access to the Atlantic coastline, arguing that separating Igbo communities in Rivers State from the proposed South-East region would leave the wider Igbo region economically disadvantaged and effectively landlocked. The disagreement over ethnic boundaries, territorial identity and resource access ultimately prompted the delegation to reject the summit’s communiqué and walk out, deepening the debate over whether Nigeria’s restructuring should be based on ethno-linguistic identity or political and administrative considerations. #nigerianews #nigeriannews #igboamaka

The traditional name of Port Harcourt is Igweocha. It's actually an Igbo name. It was renamed after in 1913 after the British Administrator, Vernon Harcourt from Scotland.
