@simonlepret: Historically, women overwhelmingly did not want the right to vote. The idea that women fought tirelessly for the right to vote is a myth. @simonlepret

yeah, people tend to be indoctrinated with the common views held at the time. some slaves chose to stay slaves. this means nothing.

Wild. Guess that goes to show that positive change often starts with a vocal minority. The American Revolution started similarly. Independence started as a very unpopular idea and slowly grew.

Women should still be legally allowed to vote just in case they want to. Nobody is required to vote.

I think women suffrage is a bit odd because the whole point was to vote as a representative of the family and if women voted it would promote being single

There’s a huge difference between “women didn’t vote” and “women didn’t want the right to vote.” Your 1895 Massachusetts example actually undermines your point: only ~4% participated, but ~96% of those who DID vote supported suffrage. And low turnout in 1920 doesn’t prove women opposed suffrage either. it can reflect barriers, unfamiliarity with voting, or lack of political engagement. You’re presenting selective evidence as proof of a conclusion it doesn’t establish.

I feel like your disregarding a ton of nuance here😂 like idk the primary reason was because these women existed within a system of which they were highly dependent on and what they've only ever known to exist? I mean if you look at other examples of initial reactions to big societal changes, they've consistently the same... even today you can barely get a majority to agree on anything😭

How would we even practically return to the old days? I'd gladly give up my vote and my job, but who is going to support like a hundred million women, especially us older ones? 😳
