@abbyeckel: 5 (more) ways to center yourself that cost absolutely nothing. Please remember that just because you’re learning to center yourself doesn’t mean you hate your husband or your family. It means you simply want to exist within your family too. That you want to be able to have needs and have those needs be met just like you do for everyone else. And if someone calls you selfish for it, smile and say “thanks!” And own that shit. Being selfish isn’t a bad thing. Much like Eleanor Roosevelt said how you no one can make you feel inferior with your consent - no one can make you feel selfish without your consent, either. When you own the word, it looses its insult. Being selfish only became a bad thing as a mother because men realized they weren’t being centered and didn’t like it so they used to try and Make you feel guilt and shame for it. You don’t have to be complicit in it though. #adviceforwomen #centeryourself #decenteryourhusband

START COOKING FOOD YOU LIKE. ONLY YOU. not making two meals, just make the one you really like. tell them if they dont want it pbj is available they are welcome to make it. obviously if your kids are not old enough to make their own you might have to make a small second option.

Watch the show YOU want to watch. Sit in the recliner that's most comfy. Cook the foods YOU like even if they don't. Sleep in, let them fend for themselves. Go shopping in the stores YOU like. Put YOUR music on in the car. Keeping yourself human isn't greedy.🥰

I made vegetables I like and then a salad for anyone who didn't want them the other night and it was a whole thing. I really am just the help.

Not having kids for a man is also free. 🖤 staying childfree saves you from a LOT of the men who expect a mommy bangmaid.

why is it when a woman centers herself it's "selfish". when a man centers himself, it's self-care and just men being men.

My kids do their own laundry and my husband helps with ours. One thing I did this year is cancel Christmas. We already go away for thanksgiving but Christmas is so much work while his family sits on their asses and him and I do all the cooking and cleaning. They get to spend time with my kids and enjoy them and do no work. I told him no more. No one is allowed over on Christmas Day and I’ll do a catered meal for us

I am a 58 year old professional woman with 3 children who has had this approach since I got married 27 years ago. We are happy. I don’t manage my husband and he doesn’t manage me. We manage kids together.

not only did I stop buying gifts for my husband's family, I also removed every birthday/ anniversary reminder from my calendar so I can't possibly know or worry about reminding him 🥰 I did warn him first & it's a fabulous move that I HIGHLY recommend

The first year I had him buy most of the Christmas gifts for his family, he took full credit for every single one. 🙄 I’ve been buying gifts for both families and signed both our names to everything for over 15 years. He got an earful when we got home.

Taking time to care for you should not be so frowned upon ! Why do we always have to be absolutely last on the list EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!

You can't pour from an empty cup. I wish I had known about this concept earlier in my life. No time like the present. I dare say centering yourself allows you to show up as your most authentic and caring self

Saying no sucks so bad. I was very stressed by it. But I still miss being invited because when you start doing this you stop being invited.

“Centering yourself” is selfishness. God is at the center, and your family comes first.
