@markus.aurilius5: Lady Rai hairstyle 👑 is not merely a visual trace preserved by the mummification process. Her mummy retained clearly defined natural hair, still attached to the scalp and remarkably preserving its original arrangement. The hair appears in dense groups of tightly arranged locks and finely braided sections, with a clear division into two principal masses on either side of the head and face.Researchers have regarded this hairstyle as an example of female hairstyling during the early New Kingdom, linking it to the fashions of the period. Most importantly, the arrangement of the braids is not a modern reconstruction. The hairstyle itself is visible on the original mummy. Lady Rai’s mummy was therefore later used as a reference for the hairstyle created during the facial reconstruction of Meritamun, whose hairstyle was described as fine, tightly plaited braids arranged along both sides of the head.Lady Rai dates to the early 18th Dynasty, approximately 1570–1530 BCE, and was associated with the royal court as the nursemaid and caretaker of Queen Ahmose-Nefertari.Her mummy was discovered in the Deir el-Bahari cache in 1881, and was examined and unwrapped in the early twentieth century. When we look at her hair today, we are not looking at an imagined reconstruction of an ancient Egyptian hairstyle; we are looking at the hairstyle preserved on Lady Rai’s own mummy.Natural hair preserved in fine, tightly arranged braids, divided into dense masses on either side of the head—providing direct archaeological evidence for female hairstyling in the early 18th Dynasty.Scientifically, the most precise wording is that the hair preserved on her mummy represents her preserved natural hair and surviving hairstyle, without claiming that every visible strand has been conclusively proven to be free of any added material unless supported by published microscopic or analytical examination. And this is precisely what makes Lady Rai’s hair so significant: it was not merely preserved—it preserved the details of the hairstyle itself.

Lady Rai was a nurse maid for Queen Ahmose Nefertari. She looks like she would’ve been very beautiful.

I love mummies. So interesting. I don't think showing them is disrespectful. I've always said I'd like to be mummified if I could. My family think I'm joking but I'm not. Never cremation and don't like the thought of being under ground. Perfect solution 👍
