The rich men who bought their way out while poor men died for a war they didn’t choose. They chose Black New Yorkers instead. Racial hierarchy doesn’t just survive at the top. It survives by convincing everyone below it that there’s still someone beneath them to stand on. The Irish weren’t spared by that hierarchy. They were recruited into it, and their descendants became some of its loudest defenders. Discrimination is real. It is not the same thing as exclusion. It’s proof of how far you can climb inside the system.
