That’s a lot clearer Sean, and to be fair I agree with quite a bit of it. Maybe the triple lock does need looking at, but I’m still not convinced your generation won’t get a State Pension. I suspect the age will move again before that happens.
The one thing all this pension talk on TV, radio and social media misses is how it sounds to people already retired. Some pensioner sitting at home hears “unsustainable” and “pensions cost too much” and genuinely worries they’re coming after the little they’ve got. For some, that £12k or so is pretty much all they have.
I’d also like to see the whole welfare pot looked at, not just pensions, because other areas have increased significantly too.
And we’re not the only country with an ageing population. Maybe it’s time we looked properly at what works and doesn’t work across Europe and took the best bits rather than assuming there’s only one answer.
