And they act like because you are writing it off means it’s magically free. The “30k dollar tractor” you are writing off just takes 30k off your tax bill. But you still had to spend 30k.

What people don’t understand is that just because you own a business and have tax write-offs doesn’t mean you don’t pay taxes. We absolutely do. Even after legitimate business deductions, some of us are still paying $15,000, $20,000, $30,000 or more in taxes. A write-off reduces taxable income; it doesn’t magically make your tax bill disappear.

now for some more explanation why everyone is always talking about right offs is because business look at what they made shortly before taxes and then all go out and buy buy buy were if they weren't paying taxes they'd just save the money right offs work as a insensitive to reinvest so that people dont just hold the money and are able to keep the economy moving

the wages you pay your employees is a right off. so you make 10 million in profit pay 4.5 million in taxes. then pay your workers 1 million. your taxes owe drop to 3.5 million so now you add that to your profit. that's why general electric pays zero in taxes. that increases there profits.

Yes, but the write offs for farming were written to give greater benefit than most segments. Also bigger view, write-offs encourage a disposable economy rather than fix and repair, so NO business should get any write off.

we had a 13 bay trailer repair shop and we wrote off alot but it didn't do much at end of the year and it was alot alot of write offs

Yes being a business owner and it amazes me what some people think. They don’t realize most of the time you don’t write the large expenses off in a single year. And writing something off doesn’t mean free by any stretch. You have a year and bring in around 400k but your expenses are 425k because shit happens . Not to mention the monthly,quarterly and annual taxes .

And that 30k on a truck will be spread out over 5 years. Aslo known as depreciated out. The truck will be worn out before you get the full depreciation.

My wifes a CPA. You would be amazed how many people buy things they domt need just to wrote off. It makes no sense unless you actually need it.
