Bryce Dallas Howard’s crying on command is crazy to me. I’ll watch the clip of her doing it every time it comes across my feed.

It’s not cheating. It’s called acting for a reason.

tesr sticks are good as it stops the assumption that actors need to entirely embody their character (like method acting) when the number one rule of life is "dont take your work home with you". why would i want an actor (especially children) to put themselves in emotional distress to 'be real' (think the abuse towards Shelley Duvall and others)

TBH it’s always bothered me when characters on screen break bones or get shot, but the actors are never actually injured. Really takes me out of the film.

Hannah :
As someone who uses a tear stick the way it works for me at least is, a tear stick makes your eyes water and once it gets started it's far easier to properly cry.

i also think some people just aren’t cryers? like i’ve known actors who can be so emotionally invested in the scene, fully in that pocket, and still could never naturally produce a tear. because in their real life - they don’t cry either.

Probabaly not needed for a play, but for film when you do take after take? I definitely don't think it's cheating.

I mean, I don’t think it’s cheating. They’re still acting. Tears are just like a prop or like wardrobe they still need to be a good actor for it to be believable

That for me is the biggest point in favour of them. Feeling an emotion and presenting an emotion on screen are two different things

acting is literally pretending, so what's wrong with pretending to cry?

It’s really annoying when actors DON’T use it and just dry scream through a sad scene. It takes me out of a movie immediately. This scene is a prime example, we were robbed!

I don't think it's cheating. I don't think you should to be expected to have to go to a very dark place every single time there is a scene where you need to show strong emotion or cry. I think if you're able to act that without having to put yourself into a dark place, it is a lot healthier.
