This is legitimately good advice. Children aren’t naturally rebellious or malicious, they just have no forethought, wisdom, or experience. Asking them questions about a hypothetical outcome forces them to have forethought. You have to hold a child’s hand and walk them towards wisdom until they can find it on their own.

I do this when my six year old threatens to run away. "Okay. You have a bag packed? Got anything in there for when you get cold? Do you have a flashlight? Okay. Where are you going to sleep when it gets dark? And when you get hungry? Yeah that's kind of what I thought why don't you camp out on the trampoline instead and cool off." She's gonna take off for the back of the property loaded out like she's headed for the Appalachian Trail at some point but until then it gives her enough pause to reconsider every time 😂
