@onlyinarizona: The Trump administration is moving forward with construction of a new border wall on part of the Tohono O’odham Nation reservation in southern Arizona. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the area is a dangerous corridor for drug and migrant smuggling and that the wall will close a security gap along the border. But tribal officials strongly oppose the project. The Tohono O’odham Nation says federal agents and contractors entered tribal land to begin construction and alleges they violated tribal codes and trespassed to reach the construction site. Tribal officials also say the project could damage land considered sacred to the tribe. In August, a federal judge allowed the government to proceed with construction. CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott defended the project, calling the area one of the most dangerous smuggling and trafficking corridors along the Southwest border. Tribal officials say they are now considering additional legal action to remove the contractors. I went there for a field trip years ago and I always found it fascinating that the PEOPLE OF THIS LAND can go back and forth through a fence…. The government first takes their homeland and then takes it away from … this is a sad country we live in
