Enver Pasha (Ismail Enver) was an Ottoman military and political figure, one of the key figures in the history of the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century. His activities were associated with the Young Turk Revolution of 1908 and World War I. Biography and career Born on November 22, 1881, in Constantinople (Istanbul) into the family of a railway worker. Received military education at the military lyceum in the city of Monastir, and then completed his studies at the Military Academy of the General Staff, from which he graduated in 1903 with the rank of captain. In 1906, already holding the rank of major, he joined a secret society associated with the “Unity and Progress” party. He actively participated in the Young Turk Revolution of 1908, which led to the restoration of the constitution in the Ottoman Empire. In January 1913, he carried out a coup d’état, as a result of which he established a military dictatorship together with Talaat Pasha and Cemal Pasha — the so‑called triumvirate of the “three pashas”. In 1914, he became the Minister of War of the Ottoman Empire. He was a supporter of the ideas of pan‑Turkism (the unification of Turkic peoples) and pan‑Islamism.
