@robertlufkin: As a medical school professor, I remind patients that cancer is not only a genetic disease — it is also a metabolic one. A new preclinical Nature Metabolism study out of Weill Cornell made that concrete in prostate cancer. Dr. John Blenis and colleagues showed that propionyl-CoA — produced when your body breaks down the branched-chain amino acids isoleucine and valine — acts as a signal that switches on cholesterol production inside prostate cancer cells. That extra cholesterol helps the cancer adapt to hormone-deprivation therapy and become more aggressive. A byproduct of everyday amino-acid metabolism is feeding treatment resistance. Study honesty: this is preclinical work in cells, not a clinical trial. It adds another data point to the metabolic-root-cause thesis I lay out in "Lies I Taught in Medical School": chronic disease and cancer progression are shaped by the fuel we run our cells on, not just the mutations we inherit. Gerg :
this is saying that 25% of men who are on ADT with castrate level T and PSA can still have actively growing, spreading malignant prostate cancer. your doctor's probably dont acknowledge this bc it dispells the false notion that 0 PSA = cancer free.
