@modernhomestead: After 3 months of doing nothing to the chicken runs let's check them and see what they look like. The mulch basically self cleans the chickens turn it and the bugs break down the waste, it's a complete cycle that requires little to no maintenance. IMO it's the best thing #mulch #chickencoop #chickens #update #homestead
how do you clean the mulch when you do have to clean it

Fancy TikTok‘s almost made me go with sand!! I’ve had mulch in there since March and haven’t had to do anything at all, except for add more mulch like 3 times.

Would you recommend mulch in a run that gets a lot of water from rain? I have sand currently and it’s turning into concrete lol

What do you do with your run in the winter time? Tarps or plastic on the sides?

Let me see what you do when it is -30 degrees outside a few days & then it never gets above 0 degrees for a week & never above 32 for a 21 out of 30 days in a month.

I did sand for a while. Hated it. Switched to mulch and grass clippings and I’ll never go back

I did this with my old coop for a year, moved and have to redo it all over again. 😂 Not too hard, though I use leaves in the fall for mulch, no smell. It is awesome that you found this method for your coop! Keep it up! Woo!

We do mulch in the run. It’s so easy. When I clean my coop, I occasionally walk through the run with a rake and turn over the poopy areas. It never smells, I never scoop it out. I just add more mulch in spots that get bare

We do the same. So much easier. No need to scoop it all goes to the ground. Just add more mulch once in a while
