this startup wants to build Moon bases out of Moon dust. building on the Moon has two problems: 1) shipping anything there costs about $1M per kilogram (a single ton of concrete would cost a billion dollars in delivery alone) 2) the Moon itself has almost nothing to build with. the entire surface is a layer of gray dust called regolith, rock that got ground into powder by billions of years of meteorite impacts. but Lunar Forge, the company behind this, thinks the dust is enough. their machine scoops it up, filters and sorts the grains, then hits them with a laser until they fuse into solid blocks. the technique is called "sintering." instead of melting the dust into liquid, the heat bonds the grains where they touch, the same way a kiln turns loose clay into solid ceramic. and in lab tests, the blocks measured 10x stronger than concrete. some samples nearly matched structural steel. so one machine that turns the ground into building material solves both problems at once. the first application is shielding for nuclear reactors. every serious Moon base plan needs a fission reactor for power, since solar panels go dark for 14 days at a time during the lunar night. a reactor needs a thick protective shell around the core, which is most of the total mass. build the shell from local dust and you only launch the core itself. once that works, the same process covers landing pads, blast shields, foundations. basically the heavy boring stuff a base needs before anyone can live there. the first demo on the actual Moon is planned for 2027. the machine will fly up on a lander and run on solar power and batteries. the long-term plan: multiple sintering machines working as one AI-controlled swarm, building structures autonomously. you can't exactly ship a construction crew to the Moon, so the machines have to run themselves. which means the first real Moon base probably starts with a lander and a laser, turning the ground underneath it into the base itself.

😭 crocodile lunges from the water toward what appears to be a deer at the shoreline, only to collide with a life-sized cardboard cutout. Mistaking the decoy for real prey, the crocodile snaps at it mid-jump, crushing the flimsy material and splashing back into the water. The prank highlights the crocodile’s powerful ambush instincts and how realistic the fake deer looks from a distance. #animalsofinstagram #funny #memes #wildlife #reels
