a lot of them actually have coarse hair but bc they’re hair is breaking off easily (prob for some other reason) it’s easier to blame that on fine texture

I think the confusion comes in. Because judging by these comments, people don't know what 4C hair is. It's not a level of how course or dense your hair? Is it's just the curl. A very very tightly compacted curl.

thank you for using the term ringlets I said natural hair can have a mixture of curls coils and ringlets and someone told me it's was only coils like I literally have a mixture of ringlets and curls and coils at the same time people assume ringlets are for loose texture. so draining explaining

Side note I hate when people say their hair texture isn’t 4c . I have thickk 4c hair recently. I’ve been straightening my hair a lot so my curls are becoming looser. That doesn’t mean I don’t have 4C hair that just means I have heat damage.

it's quite the opposite in my country, coarse hair is seen as 4C while fine is not, hairstylist usually ask me if my fine hair is actually 4C which has me thinking if it's 4C or not

Because most people confuse hair density with the texture of hair… they didn’t go to cosmetology school. It’s ok. No judgement. Most Asians have coarse hair . When I say this - people look confused because they have straight hair most times but it’s a FACT . Texture is the thickness of the hair strand. Density is the amount of hair strands per square inch .

my 4c is THickkk, I think people don’t see the coils as often with thicker hair because you have to be properly moisturizing to see the curl pattern come out or it’ll just clump together in puffs that look like matts but it’s really frizzy coils

I have fine "4C hair", but because of my high density, everyone always assumes I have "coarse/thick" hair, a common misconception that confuses density with strand thickness. I'm just now learning that 4C is considered the most fragile hair type, because growing up everyone would say it's the thickest and toughest. I'm sure there are people who have actual thick 4C hair out there but I haven't seen it personally yet.

The coarse texture of 4c hair can not be described by density because everyone’s hair density is different. Now if you say 4c low porosity hair that would be in reference to density. Because porosity defines your hair’s ability to intake moisture.
