For those who may not fully understand it, this is part of the story of how the Igbo people rebuilt their lives, restored their confidence and found prosperity again after the devastation of Biafra and the difficult years that followed.
Much of that recovery was built quietly through community, trust, enterprise and brotherhoods like this.
These associations may seem like social clubs but they are also extended families, business networks, support systems, investment circles and channels through which ideas, opportunities and encouragement are shared. Members celebrate one another’s successes and stood together in difficult times.
The Peoples Club of Nigeria may have been one of the great early examples but today there are thousands of similar associations carrying the same spirit forward na AlaIgbo.
That is one of the enduring strengths of the Igbo story: we may compete fiercely among ourselves, disagree loudly and pursue our individual ambitions, but beneath it all remains an understanding that our collective progress matters too.
Well done to my FORMIDABLE brothers. This is brotherhood in motion.
And as I always say: if I no be Igbo, I for don lie down for railway track. 😄
