Instead of checking only how fast you’re travelling at one particular spot, your average speed over a stretch of road can now be measured. Driver: “Hehe… the road is clear. Time to speed up!” --- 🛣️ Poster 2 — “Trial Begins on the BKE” The average-speed enforcement trial will start on the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE). An enforcement zone will monitor vehicles travelling between designated entry and exit points. Driver: “Nobody can catch me if I slow down when I see a camera!” --- 📸 Poster 3 — “Smile! You’re Being Tracked!” Cameras at the entry and exit points record each vehicle entering and leaving the enforcement zone. The system records the distance travelled and the time taken to calculate the vehicle’s average speed. Driver: “I was fast for only part of the journey. I should be fine!” --- ⏱️ Poster 4 — “Your Average Speed Matters” The system calculates: AVERAGE SPEED = DISTANCE TRAVELLED ÷ TIME TAKEN So even if you slow down later, speeding through a large part of the enforcement zone can still result in a high average speed. Driver: “Wait… they calculate my speed across the whole zone?!” --- 🚨 Poster 5 — “Over the Limit? You’re Flagged!” If your average speed is above the stipulated speed limit, your vehicle can be flagged for a speeding violation. Driver: “Oh no! I thought slowing down near the end would save me!” Traffic Police: “It’s your average speed through the enforcement zone that matters.” --- 😭 Poster 6 — “Too Late to Cry!” The driver receives a speeding offence notice. Driver: “I was only speeding for a while… but my average speed was still too high! 😭” Moral of the story: DON’T JUST WATCH YOUR SPEED AT THE CAMERA.
