Giiiiirl, of course you need a thick front piece of trim on each shelf. It will cover up your ‘braces’ and finish the shelves. It will give the illusion of a thick piece of wood.

Screw the same board on the underside of the supports and use trim for a thicker shelf to finish. Well done so far!

What if you cover up your braces with corbels. If not, maybe try pocket holes or gold shelf brackets 🤷🏼♀️

You can use like trim on the front corners to cover it. Kind of like this

Use a Jerry jog pocket holes system. I’ve done this plenty of times

we hit this snag when building shelves in our RV. We just took a thin plywood, added that to the bottom and put trim the outside to cover the two boards. I hope I explained that well😅

Face frame girl. You need it anyway because you’ve got an edge if exposed plywood over there.

Add trim pieces across each shelf a little bigger than the braces to mimic thick shelving. Does that make sense? We did the same thing on our built ins.

Use another trim piece at the front. 1. It’ll make the shelves look thicker 2. Hides the braces 😉

Box it in! It’ll cover up the bracing and also make it look like a sturdier piece of wood😁

I built mine out of 1x10s and used a kreg jig (pocket holes) to hold the shelves in place so our builds are a little different but the thing i did similar to you is the support, mine went along the back though, I used a 1x2" board to support the weight and prevent sagging in the middle over time. I then used mdf cove trim to soften the blunt profiles. I also added face framing to make a cleaner more finished look.

You could make that like a floating shelf. Think closing in the shelf … hoping you catch my vibe. It would be thicker once finished but perhaps an option

You can add a bottom piece to the underside of the shelf and then a front trim piece.
