my baby is 1 years old. I go by the 10 minutes per year rule. at 1, I should be able to expect about 10 minutes per year of life to sit contentedly at a table. We practice that every day! 10 minutes stuck in a chair eating. By 2, it should be 20 minutes.

Let them cry and take the ipad away forever. Never ever give it back. Do not give in. Kids can survive without iPads. Mother of 3 no iPads.

Giving your kid an iPad during a waiting period like at a restaurant doesn’t teach them how to wait and be bored but teaches them to have constant stimulation which is why they cry when it’s taken away. Teach your kids to be bored.

his response is letting you know that he doesn’t have the emotional regulation skills that he needs to transition from being on an ipad (high stimulation and immediate reward) to another activity that’s less stimulating/rewarding to his brain. this is completely developmentally normal for a toddler, but as a parent it’s important to understand what your child is capable of and set them up for success. try lower stimulation high connection activities to ease him off the ipad and give him time to be bored and figure out how to entertain himself!

Take it away completely. Don’t allow it at the restaurant at all. Not just this time, but every time. We had to cut out the tablet completely because it was affecting my daughter’s behavior so much. She’s a totally different kid now without it. Bring other activities for him to do while out.

No iPad to hand to them to begin with. I mean this with love, but so many studies and research have already indicated it is not good for little developing brains. We pack a bag full of small toys, coloring books, mini magnatiles etc and use it when we go out to eat.

You grab the iPad and put it away. If they throw a fit one of you takes him to the car and everyone else gets to continue to stay at the table to eat. And then you never bring the iPad back at restaurants again.

Take it away entirely. Endure the tantrums while they detox, then move on with life. Don’t have to take it away at the restaurant if it’s never there.

Just.take.it.away……? He might throw a tantrum but then he’ll know you’re serious. Take it away every time you go out to eat to show him these are the expectations.

Just deal with the tantrum , gotta rip the bandaid off go cold turkey. They’ll cry when they want it for a few days but then forget about it. - my son got attached to drawing on iPad, and would throw a huge tantrum when he couldn’t get it.

Never giving them an iPad in the first place. I recognize it’s a bit late for that but now you’re in charge. Take it. Pack your food to go if you have to. Retract your child now to interact in public. Do it now or it will be even harder. Bring age appropriate replacements like crayons or a book.

I genuinely wonder if that’s why kids don’t have the attention span to even be taught in school anymore they can’t go 8 hours without the iPad 😶

Why even give it to him if he can’t listen when it’s time to put it away. You’re in charge, not him.
