@narcissisticpartners: Hi, it's Juliana! Have you heard of the term “narcissistic supply” before? It's the things narcissists need from other people to feel good about themselves. There are five main forms of it: validation, admiration, reassurance, power, and control. Generally speaking, narcissists get the first three by being perfect in public. The perfect partner, parent, friend, coworker, or even stranger. This act gets people to give them the validation, admiration, and reassurance they seek. “You're such a good person.” Validation. “I don't know how you do it all.” Admiration. “Anyone would be lucky to have you.” Reassurance. They get the last two by being manipulative and abusive behind closed doors. Things like criticism, yelling, putting you down, gaslighting, and the silent treatment. It makes them feel powerful and in control. But part of them knows they can't let people see them act like this because then that “perfect” image could get shattered, and they’d lose the validation, admiration, and reassurance. So when you pull out your phone to record, take pictures, call a friend, or do anything that could expose them, they do everything they can to look like the “good” one. Or, if that's not possible, they come up with some explanation, usually putting the blame on you, for why they were acting like that. And that's what you're seeing in this video.
