hi, I’m Jeff, and i think I’m the only gay, british-asian, fitness creator that I’ve seen on here. cos growing up, i followed all these big fitness guys online. but not a single one looked like me. the truth is, i used to idolise straight culture, neglect my asian roots, and hide pretty much anything that made me different. i was so desperate to fit into the straight world. cos i didn’t feel like I fit into the gay one. i didn’t really belong anywhere which left me in a bit of lonely place to be honest… and i started to lose hope. but when i turned 30. things started changing — in the world and inside of me. asians started getting more representation in the western world. and i started feeling something i had never felt before. like i could finally embrace my roots. my self-worth started to grow. and i started being a bit louder about who I was. not just about being asian, but being gay. and when I started doing this — everything started to change. but I still didn’t have a gay role model doing what I wanted to do in fitness. so about 9 months ago, i made a post talking about who I actually was. for the first time. i lifted this mask off i’d been holding up for so long… and then, i got hundreds of DMs from gay guys, asian guys, people who were both — every one with their own version of the same story. i didn’t realise showing up would matter that much. but it turns out it wasn’t just me who felt like this. i wasn’t really hiding who I was before. i just wasn’t celebrating it. so I’ve decided now in my 30s, that it’s time to finally speak up a bit louder. because it really is never too late.
