Absolutely it goes against the fair trading act. I avoid AI businesses, and yeah a cell phone pic printed on plain A4 with the name handwritten under is more likely to get me to purchase than an AI generated image. Also to the businesses, due to Naruto the macaque proving art (and extrapolating from there I assume design eg menus) has to be human made, the store doesn't own the copyright for their own marketing materials. Anyone could take them and use them. Ironically, if someone copied it down exactly with a pen and paper/paint etc, copyright likely would fall on that artist. It's such a shakey place to stand but so many businesses are 🤮

Oh man I’ve noticed this so much even just on uber eats! It makes me not wanna order coz it’s so obvious when it’s AI and I just can’t trust what I’m gonna get

ai in all aspects of every industry across NZ is unregulated. However, you're right, using ai in this manner should still fall under misleading laws 💯👌🏽 my signage and menus are still designed by me 🔥🥳

It’s not remotely comparable to fast food photography. Fast food photos are of the exact product you will receive just presented in the best possible light

LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!! As someone who also works in marketing I literally warned so many businesses I work with about this in the beginning and now have witnessed multiple people argue with servers about this exact thing 🤦🏽♀️the more you support local artists and creators, the more the community supports you

I actively avoid every food place that uses AI images. Its just really off putting and usually doesn’t look appetising anyway (especially savoury food like burritos, the texture in the AI images always looks nasty af 🤢)

Finally someone has spoken on this! Uber eats is the worst for it and I can’t even recall how many times I’ve skipped ordering from somewhere purely because they’ve used AI, it’s not a good way to get customers in my opinion

it's our biggest nightmare to not have our guests expectations meet what they actually experience. It is hard to get quality content of your offerings, but worth the investment to get the real thing captured in the moment it's actually going to be experienced.
