The bigger question is: are we willing to travel differently because they’re young? 👀 And yes, I’m calling myself into this conversation too. 😂 Traveling with little kids requires MORE. More planning. More snacks. More luggage than seems humanly necessary. More bathroom stops. More flexibility. More consideration for naps, meals and overstimulation. And yes, they may absolutely have a full-blown meltdown with the prettiest view you’ve ever seen behind them. 🤣 But here’s what they also get: ✈️ Exposure to different people, places and ways of life 🌍 Curiosity about a world bigger than their own 🗣️ New sounds, foods, languages and experiences 🧠 Opportunities to adapt and problem-solve 🤎 Uninterrupted time with the people they love 📸 Family stories and traditions that grow with them ✨ And eventually, the confidence that the world is somewhere they belong Will they remember every trip? No. But we don’t only give our children experiences they’ll consciously remember forever. Their childhood is being shaped while they’re living it. And I also want to acknowledge the privilege in this conversation. Travel costs money, time and resources, and not every family has equal access to those things. But travel doesn’t have to mean an international flight or an expensive resort. A different city. A road trip to another state. A train ride. A weekend somewhere you’ve never explored. Even discovering somewhere new close to home counts. Sometimes when we say, “They’re too young to travel,” what we really mean is: “Traveling with them at this age would require more from me.” And that’s a completely different conversation. You don’t have to travel the way you did before kids. Travel with the children you actually have, at the ages they actually are.
