Rick and Morty doing the court scene comes to mind

Yeah so back then the kid's shows were also for the adults to watch with their kids.

There’s actually a very sweet story behind this, too. It’s not just a famous crashout, but it’s Maurice’s mic check before each recording session and had been for years. His close friend Sam Kinison had passed away, and he’d come back from his funeral on the same day as the recording of this episode. He didn’t know about the script until the day of recording, and it was a surprise by the writers to cheer him up. 🥺

This reminds me of Orson Welles's champagne commercial where he barely gives a shit

There's also Maurice's legendary Orson Welles impressions from The Critic: "Rosebud frozen peas. Full of country goodness and green pea-ness."

Does this mean we’ll get a kids cartoon remake of Christian Bales crash out?

The Critic also referenced this. I think about those jokes regularly.

I love that for something like 80 years anything animated for children had a strong foundation in classic literature, folklore, and pop culture memes essentially built for adult audiences. It got me reading and expanding my media consumption so I could get the jokes too—I always noticed when the adults in the room chuckled and they could never quite explain why 😂

part of the animaniacs experience was watching your parent burst out laughing at something you missed and having to come to grips with the reality that you really would find out when you were older

When that came out I was bartending so was home during the day a lot and used to watch Animaniacs. I knew about the Orson Welles/frozen pea commercial so when I saw that the first time I HOWLED - but never understood why it would be in a kid’s cartoon except for the Orson Welles connection. Thanks for finally giving me an answer to that!

Why *wouldn’t* Brain record a commercial. Everything about that show was fucking random. That’s what makes it epic. And just a reminder that PINKY was the only one to ever actually take over the world

Would have loved if they did orson Welles champagne commercial where he indulged a little too much in the product he’s promoting. “aHA THe fREncH…”

This is making me realize that growing up on cartoons like this definitely gave me a wider reference point for things. Like this seems so advanced in comparison to a lot of similar media for kids now.

This is why I loved all these WB cartoons. Freakazoid! Was my absolute favorite cartoon during that time. Chock full of older pop culture references.
