In a follow-up interview video, the mother told reporters: "The boy had developed bad behaviour and she used the method to ensure the boy changed his behaviour... He had started stealing. We poured hot water and used a little fire so that he can fear and stop doing bad things. It was to discipline him." She pointed to the boy's knees and palms while explaining the actions, adding that the child "has learned" and promised not to steal again.
