Riding in that same formula are phthalates and formaldehyde, and through burned, broken skin they get a direct way in. The problem is those two chemicals: phthalates scramble your hormones, and formaldehyde is the embalming preservative the FDA is now moving to ban from hair straighteners — the same kind of chemical regulators in the US and Europe have already restricted in cosmetics.
