In July 2026, the Ugandan government declared a mandatory "National Cleaning Day". Every last Saturday of the month, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, the country goes into a lockdown: businesses must close, vehicles are banned from the roads, and citizens are legally required to clean their local streets, markets, and drainage channels. ​But this heavy-handed directive raises a massive question for the working class: If citizens pay taxes for public services, sanitation, and waste management, why are they being forced to do the government's job? ​In this video, we break down the controversial decree that has sparked widespread outrage. We cover the reports of citizens facing arrests, beatings, and coercion for refusing to participate in the mandatory exercise.
