The truth is, my relationship with my body hasn’t always been healthy. I’ve struggled with an ED in the past, and even today there are moments when body dysmorphia gets LOUD. There are days I still have to fight the urge to believe that being smaller would somehow make me more worthy. But then my boys say things like, “Mom, look at my muscles!” And it reminds me that they’re watching. They’re watching how I speak to myself, how I fuel my body, how I move it, and how I choose to celebrate this body. I’m not teaching my boys that a woman’s value comes from being smaller. I’m teaching them that strength, discipline, confidence, and the way we care for our bodies are beautiful. I want them to know that food is fuel, movement is a gift, and our bodies deserve to be cared for… not punished. And one day, when they grow up and love a woman, I hope they admire her character, her strength, and the way she carries herself far more than the number on a scale. Healing isn’t always a straight line. Some days are still hard. But now I have little eyes watching me, and that’s bigger than my own insecurities. If my boys remember anything about me, I hope it’s that I chose strength over shrinking.
