@edith.finance: Before Andy Burnham took office, it was widely expected that income tax thresholds would be unfrozen. However the freeze is expected to continue, and the fiscal drag will carry on for much longer, sadly 😥 No rises in income tax, national insurance or VAT rates are expected in the next budget on 28 October...Because that’s a manifesto commitment both Burnham and Healey have reaffirmed they will keep - so the headline rates on your salary are unlikely to go up. But... But wealth and capital are family in the frame. Burnham has publicly said the UK over-taxes labour and under-taxes wealth which is a fancy way of saying that if you own things like property investments businesses you should probably brace for changes to your tax position 👉 Capital gains tax is the most talked about target 👉 Dividend taxes already went up in April 2026 and a wealth tax has not been ruled out 👉 Property taxes have been high on the agenda Chatter about high value council tax bands and a possible shift towards a land value tax to replace council tax altogether. 🤔 All speculations at this stage but enough to be spooking the housing market already... 👉 Pensions are also on the agenda: The tax-free sum, higher rate pension tax relief and salary sacrifice arrangements are all reportedly being reviewed. Budget speculation is a national sport and half of it can turn out to be wrong but even without the specifics the overall direction is clear: Income tax rates sustained, so revenue has to come from somewhere else and that somewhere else looks increasingly like wealth, investments, assets, and the wrappers that protect them.
