@chinaembassyinmaldives: On the occasion of the 8th anniversary of the opening of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge and the final day of the countdown to Maldivian National Engineers’ Day, today’s story takes us across the channel to explore the story behind “Crossing the Channel: The Maldives’ First-Ever Cross-Sea Bridge.” Agreed upon by the leaders of China and the Maldives, this China-aided landmark project connects Malé, Velana International Airport Island, and Hulhumalé Island across the sea. As a world-renowned tourist destination, the Maldives relied solely on boats and seaplanes for inter-island travel among its scattered islands, making transportation extremely inconvenient. A cross-sea bridge had long been a cherished dream of the Maldivian people. As the first cross-sea bridge in Maldivian history, the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge has effectively improved transportation conditions between the connected islands and powerfully boosted the Maldives' economic and social development. #ChinaMaldivesFriendshipBridge#8thAnniversary(2)
