I've been wondering ever since the last ep, when Ren said he didn't like eating octopus. I thought its maybe due to Takomaru/Calamari, but then I realised in this timeline or au they probably never met Takomaru, so what if his dislike towards eating octopus, because it reminds him of the boy? As well as him disliking the water. After all before that, he doesn't seem to care much about the ocean, though this one is obvious I think. Well that also makes sense why his artifact is a swim ring, mirroring his wish to have saved the boy. Honestly I'm glad we are finally getting to know the characters more in this season, especially about characters like Ren who seem "average". Cause we got to see why he is avoidant towards everyone, because he fears if he get attached again, he'll have to desperately save someone just for it to be too late. I wonder if MC almost drowning also triggered his trauma. Poor boy was only just a child trying to save another child :(
