Many people believe in a higher power and believe that God or Jesus will ultimately protect humanity from harm. But look at human history. Harm has always existed. War. Abuse. Murder. Exploitation. Greed. Corruption. People hurting other people. If free will exists, then people are free to make choices—and those choices are not automatically good. One of the hardest truths for people to accept is that not everyone thinks the way they do. Not everyone has the same level of empathy, conscience, compassion or concern for other human beings. We want to believe that most people are basically good and that there must be some explanation when someone deliberately causes harm. Sometimes there is. But sometimes a person understands that their actions will hurt someone else and chooses to do it anyway. That is why recognizing patterns instead of isolated incidents matters. When power, technology, money or authority is placed in human hands, we cannot assume that everyone holding that power will use it for the good of humanity. Faith may guide us. But free will means human beings are still responsible for human choices. We cannot simply wait for God to stop every harmful decision. We have to recognize the pattern. We have to understand who is making the decisions. We have to understand who benefits. We have to recognize who can be harmed. And we have to act before the harm becomes irreversible.
