Other days it appears when something happens and my first thought is still, “I need to tell them.” Then I remember. Healing after losing my best friend has meant learning that I can keep living without pretending I was ready to lose them. I can move forward and still miss them. I can heal and still love them. I can build new memories while grieving the ones we never got to make. Because I did not lose my best friend because we stopped choosing each other. I lost them while I was still choosing them.
