@mannydemanila: Don’t miss these two historic landmarks when visiting Cebu City! 🇵🇭✝️ 📍 Magellan’s Cross Traditionally believed to mark the spot where Ferdinand Magellan planted a cross in 1521, marking the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines. The present octagonal pavilion that houses the cross was built in 1834. 📍 Basilica Minore del Santo Niño Established in 1565, it is the oldest established Catholic church in the Philippines — not the oldest surviving church structure. The original church was built from nipa and bamboo, while the present stone structure was begun in 1735. Inside, you’ll find the Santo Niño de Cebu, traditionally believed to be the same image Magellan gave to Queen Humamay in 1521. Two iconic landmarks, nearly 500 years of history, and definitely worth adding to your Cebu itinerary. 🇵🇭❤️ #Cebu #stoniño #MagellansCross #PhilippinesTravel #basilicaofstoniño
