One day at my Fredericksburg art gallery, there was an older gentleman who would come in every now and then. He absolutely loved my artwork, but he was also very interested in knowing everything about me and my daughter. Our lives, what we were doing, how things were going. He was very in-your-face about it, and honestly, sometimes it was a little uncomfortable. But every time he came in, he would walk around admiring the paintings and tell me how much he would love to have one of my pieces in his home. The problem, he explained, was that he was retired and didn’t have much money. Fair enough. Original art isn’t in everyone’s budget. Well, apparently his birthday was coming up, and one day he came in with what he seemed to think was a perfectly reasonable solution to this problem. I could just give him a painting for his birthday. 😂 And not just ANY painting. There was one particular oil painting he really liked. It was actually a pretty special piece to me because it’s one of the few original oil paintings I’ve created and one of my first Duality paintings. The concept originally came from a drawing I created for one of my published books, so there was already a history behind the piece before it ever became a painting. It also took me a long time to create. I told him the painting was $8,000. “Oh, I definitely can’t afford that.” Okay, completely understandable. Then he went right back to his original idea. I should give it to him for free because it was his birthday. 😂 I was like, “Ahhh…no. We don’t give away original paintings for people’s birthdays.” But I did have another idea for him. I told him he was more than welcome to come in for one of our painting sessions. We’d give him the canvas, paints and supplies, and he could learn how to paint and create something himself. For some strange reason, he didn’t seem nearly as excited about that option. 😂 He continued coming into the gallery periodically after that, but the $8,000 birthday present never materialized, and he was never particularly interested in ever taking some of his retirement time and trying his hand at painting. @Amena Art #amenaart #art #artist
